ssssttttrrrreeeerrrrrrrr((((1111MMMM)))) ssssttttrrrreeeerrrrrrrr((((1111MMMM)))) NNNNAAAAMMMMEEEE _ssss_tttt_rrrr_eeee_rrrr_rrrr - STREAMS error logger daemon SSSSYYYYNNNNOOOOPPPPSSSSIIIISSSS _ssss_tttt_rrrr_eeee_rrrr_rrrr DDDDEEEESSSSCCCCRRRRIIIIPPPPTTTTIIIIOOOONNNN _ssss_tttt_rrrr_eeee_rrrr_rrrr receives error log messages from the STREAMS log driver (_llll_oooo_gggg(7)) and appends them to a log file. The error log files produced reside in the directory _////_vvvv_aaaa_rrrr_////_aaaa_dddd_mmmm_////_ssss_tttt_rrrr_eeee_aaaa_mmmm_ssss, and are named _eeee_rrrr_rrrr_oooo_rrrr_...._m_m_----_d_d, where _m_m is the month and _d_d is the day of the messages contained in each log file. The format of an error log message is: <_s_e_q> <_t_i_m_e> <_t_i_c_k_s> <_f_l_a_g_s> <_m_i_d> <_s_i_d> <_t_e_x_t> <_s_e_q> error sequence number <_t_i_m_e> time of message in hh:mm:ss <_t_i_c_k_s> time of message in machine ticks since boot priority level <_f_l_a_g_s> _TTTT : the message was also sent to a tracing process _FFFF : indicates a fatal error _NNNN : send mail to the system administrator <_m_i_d> module ID number of source <_s_i_d> sub-ID number of source <_t_e_x_t> formatted text of the error message Messages that appear in the error log are intended to report exceptional conditions that require the attention of the system administrator. Those messages which indicate the total failure of a STREAMS driver or module should have the _FFFF flag set. Those messages requiring the immediate attention of the administrator have the _NNNN flag set, which causes the error logger to send the message to the system administrator via _mmmm_aaaa_iiii_llll. The priority level usually has no meaning in the error log, but has meaning if the message is also sent to a tracer process. Once initiated, _ssss_tttt_rrrr_eeee_rrrr_rrrr continues to execute until terminated by the user. It is commonly executed asynchronously. If a module or driver is generating a large number of error messages, running the error logger causes a degradation in STREAMS performance. If a large burst of messages are generated in a short time, the log driver may not be able to deliver some of the messages. This situation is indicated by gaps in the sequence numbering of the messages in the log files. PPPPaaaaggggeeee 2222
